PARK CITY, UTAH – Recycle Utah will hold a prescription medicine collection event on Saturday, May 3rd from 9 to 11 am at the community recycling center, 1951 Woodbine Way.

Members of the Summit County Sheriff’s department will collect unwanted prescription medicines, over the counter medicine, and vitamins. Drop-off of medicines is free.

Prescription medicines should never be flushed down the toilet; neither should vitamins or over-the-counter medicines because they enter the water supply and harm fish and wildlife.

Recycle Utah is holding this prescription medicine event because the new permanent household hazardous waste collection facility at the Three Mile Canyon Landfill in Wanship does not accept prescription medicines.

The County hazmat facility accepts the following household hazardous materials every day the landfill is open:

• Paints, solvents and woodworking supplies including paint thinners and strippers, stains and finishes

• Automotive products including antifreeze, used oil, brake and transmission fluid, car batteries, tires, gasoline, diesel, and fuel additives, solvents, and degreasers

• Household cleaners including polishes and cleaners, drain openers, oven cleaners

• Fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides • Rechargeable batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, and neon tubes

• Pool and spa chemicals

• Mercury-containing items including switches, thermostats, smoke detectors and thermometers

• Propane and white gas fuel cylinders • Film developing chemicals, acids insect repellents

• There is no charge for residents to dispose of hazardous waste materials.

The Three Mile Canyon landfill is located off of State Route 32 opposite the Rockport Reservoir and is open Monday-Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. The landfill is closed Sundays and New Years Day, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Electronic and computer waste continues to be accepted at Recycle Utah at 1951 Woodbine Way in Park City, seven days a week from 10 am to 4 pm. Recycle Utah is closed the same holidays as the landfill.

For more information contact Recycle Utah at 649-9698 #.
