PARK CITY’S RECYCLE UTAH LAUNCHES BILINGUAL TRAINING FOR VOLUNTEERS

adult-education.jpgRecycle Utah has launched the first training program of its kind for service workers in the identification and proper disposal of recyclables and hazardous material.

The bilingual training program is designed for the housekeeping, maintenance, and service staffs of hotels, property management companies, restaurants, resorts, and other businesses in which proper recycling disposal is important to excellent customer service.

“Many area hotels are offering guests the amenity of recycling,” said Lola Beatlebrox, Outreach Director of Recycle Utah. “Training service workers how to help guests recycle boosts customer service to its highest level.”

Recycle Utah’s training program can be delivered in English and Spanish. In about one hour, workers learn how to recognize typical recyclables and how to sort them properly.

Recycle Utah’s staff works with the business to customize the training according to the recyclables collected, procedures specific to the business, and the duties of the trainees.

The hazardous materials portion of the training can also be customized for housekeeping or maintenance department audiences.

Businesses have the option of having Recycle Utah’s bilingual staff conduct the training or using a step-by-step leader’s guide for inhouse staff delivery.

“Bilingual worker training is extremely important,” Beatlebrox said. “Workers come from many different backgrounds and countries. A consistent, informative training program can reduce contamination and save money for business recyclers.”

“Recycling is an important practice for Park City and Summit County businesses,” Beatlebrox continued. “They see value in communicating their adoption of such a sustainable practices to create goodwill with customers.”

Recycling is important for the community at large. According to the Summit County Department of Public Works, the per capita rate of trash and recyclables disposal is 13 pounds per resident per day or three times the national average.

To help reduce this statistic, Recycle Utah has developed resources for businesses to develop cost-effective recycling programs.
