SAVING MONEY AND THE ENVIRONMENT - GOAL OF BOARD OF REALTORS & RECYCLE UTAH

ru-logo.gifPARK CITY, UTAH – The Carbon Footprint Workshop on recycling, postponed due to a major February snowstorm, has been re-scheduled. This free workshop will be held on Tuesday, March 27th from 3-5 pm at the Alf Engen Ski Museum at the Utah Olympic Park.

Local business owners and managers will learn how to save money and preserve Park City’s mountain environment at the same time by attending a series of workshops designed to help Park City businesses reduce their “carbon footprint.” The first workshop will focus on effective recycling programs.

Brent Giles, Operations Director of Park City Mountain Resort, will give a keynote presentation on the Save Our Snow report, the scientific study that predicts the impact of climate change on Park City’s skiing economy.

“The recent ‘Save Our Snow’ study showed us the critical importance of measuring our contribution to climate change emissions,” said Tom Ward, Chair of the Park City Board of Realtors Environmental Issues Committee. “Reducing the carbon footprint of our businesses is easy, as well as expected by our customers, clients and residents.”

The Board of Realtors Environmental Issues Committee, along with Recycle Utah, have combined forces to facilitate this problem solving and strategic planning workshop.

The workshop is open to Summit County business owners and managers, and HOA board members who make decisions about financial expenditures, operations, and waste disposal in their businesses.

Hotel managers, resort property managers, condominium homeowner association officers, retail business owners, and restaurant managers are especially encouraged to attend.

Workshop attendees will walk away with concrete answers to their concerns about starting and improving a cost-effective, efficient recycling program. They will learn how to:

• Save money through recycling

• Develop consortiums for efficient recycling pickup

• Train and motivate staff to recycle effectively

• Reduce their “carbon footprint” through recycling

• Overcome obstacles to recycling programs

An optional tour of the Utah Olympic Park is available from 5-6 pm. Both the workshop and tour are free of charge.

To save money and reduce your “carbon footprint” right away, attendees are encouraged to meet at the Jess Reid Building parking lot (corner of Kearns & Rte. 224) at 2:30 pm on March 27th to carpool from Park City to the workshop at the Utah Olympic Park.
