V Day Monologues Preformance Supports the Peace House - February 10th
Park City Preforming Arts Foundation once again presents a prerformance of “The Vagina Monologues” in support of the Peace House, an organization deducated in stopping domestic violence. The preformance will be held on February 10, 2008 at 7:30 PM at the Eccles Center in Park City. V-Day exists for no other reason than to stop violence against women.
The Domestic Peace Task Force, now known as the Peace House was founded in 1992, after a Park City woman was gunned down in the parking lot of Albertson’s by her estranged husband. As a result education about domestic violence was started and in time a women’s shelter was built to give women a place where they could escape if they were temporarily being threatened. Their stays lasted between one and three days and most victims then returned to their abusers. Today victims can stay as long as it takes to help them become independent and free from their perpitrator.
The V Day Monologues helps highlight domestic violence in the community and enlightens the world on women’s struggle against violence in the home.
Recently, Kristy Ragsdale of Lehi was gunned down in front of her church by her soon to be ex-husband. It is clear that the fight against domestic violence has a long way to go before women and children can live free of fear and intimidation.
