Galleria Floral I spoke with Chantelle Matthews on Tuesday, March 15th about the shop she is helping to grow. Galleria Floral, owned by Kathy Jones, opened its doors in 1984 in the Park City. It is a wonderful combination of flowers, plants and assorted knick knacks.

Chantelle started working with Kathy in 2003 as a part-time employee after many years of working with her family in the flower business. According to Chantelle her family owned flower shops in various parts of the west from Nevada to California to Utah. Starting as a child helping her parents, Chantelle did the basic “grunt” work in the shops. She swept floors and helped clean up at the end of the day, as well as cleaning roses, a very “thorny” job!

After working in Galleria Floral for a while Chantelle joined Kathy as a full-time employee and now is in the shop most days except for Wednesday.

The thing I love about flower shops is the wonderful smells that permeate the air when you walk in. They bring back memories of proms, weddings, long ago Mother’s Days and how special I felt if someone took the time to send me a beautiful bouquet after a particularly stressful week!

Chantelle loves arranging flowers and it is evident in the amazing arrangements she creates in the shop. Most of the orders come from locals that have come to rely on the quality of work by both Kathy and Chantelle. They do weddings, special occasions, funerals and gift baskets during various holiday seasons.

They also do holiday decorating for second home residents and vacationers. Chantelle says “we do trees, wreathes, garland, lighting and anything else their client has in mind to make their holiday away from home special”. Of course Valentine’s Day is a mad house but the staff works around the clock to make sure each special Valentine gets the perfect arrangement. Amazingly, the staff takes the day after off this most popular of holidays, for a much needed rest! I can’t understand why they would be tired… can you?
