I spoke with Arlynn Muehlmann, owner of Rocky Mountain Baskets located in the Redstone plaza on March 13, 2007. She is a long time Parkite having moved here in 1983. Though she now lives in Midway she still considers Park City her home.

Arlynn bought the The Rocky Mountain Basket Company in June of 2004 when the shop was still located on Kearns Avenue and then opened her new shop in Redstone in October of that same year.

She worked most of her early career as an IT Tech in the corporate world. But as cerebral as that job was creating beautiful gift baskets was always been her passion. All the while she worked with computers during the day she was doing baskets at home for friends and family so when she retired from computers she knew that she wanted to tap into her creative side for her next career. Arlynn went to work for Amy Sharpless for two years before she decided she wanted to sell the shop. Enjoying this new experience so much she says “it was a no brainer” to take a leap of faith and buy the business.

The motto at Rocky Mountain Baskets is that they never sell a “standard” basket. Every basket arrangement is created to be different and unique. They never do the same basket twice. Therefore a lot of their “basket” arrangements are done in something other than baskets. Arlynn says “Using decorative colanders, cutting boards in various shapes, wooden canoes, boxes, and baskets that aren’t even in a baskets but rather a big stuffed animal full of goodies are all designs we have done at one time or another. The staff loves the challenge of a client bringing in something that they want decorated and filled whether it’s a beautiful bowl, a unique flower pot or a candy dish. There is nothing they can’t work with and her 9 person staff loves each and every basket they make.

Arlynn dreams of expanding the services she offers by providing classes for small groups of people and helping them to create their own gift arrangements.

“Every holiday brings so many special items into the store, I think my staff and I enjoy them as much as our clients” says Arlynn. They love working with the lovely people of Park City and hope to continue to help them give the gifts that are special and custom made.
