Sara Reinertsen at the Salt Palace
The National Ability Center is proud to host keynote speaker Sara Reinertsen on Tuesday, February 6th at 7:00 pm the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, UT.
Reinertsen is a talented athlete and above the knee amputee. She is best known for becoming the first women amputee to complete the Hawaii IronMan, a grueling triathlon including a 2.4 mile swim, 112- mile bike, and 26.2-mile run. Reinertsen, recently won the 2006 ESPY award for “Best Female Athlete with a Disability,” and has been featured on the magazine covers of Runner’s World and Triathlete. In addition, she appeared as a cast member on the 10th season of the CBS reality show, The Amazing Race.
Reinertsen was born with a deformity on her left leg called proximal femoral focal deficiency and resulted in an amputation when she was 7 years old. “Sara was born different,” says her mother Solveig Fuentes, “but her difference has nothing to do with missing her left leg.” Reinertsen’s difference comes from the fact that she is not afraid to do what has never been done before. Her motto is “Fear less, live more.” Reinertsen has learned how to run as an amputee when no one could teach her how. She has helped to advance prosthetics, and has motivated other amputees to join the sport of running.
Reinertsen is a powerful speaker who can motivate anyone to overcome their obstacles and achieve their goals. The event will be held at the
