PARK CITY EDUCATION FOUNDATION SUPPORTS FULL-DAY KINDERGARTEN
The first year of the Full-Day Kindergarten pilot program at McPolin Elementary School helped 10 academically at-risk children to successfully transition into 1st grade. PCEF, in partnership with the Park City School District, continues to fund the program this year, expanding it to all four elementary schools. The district invites students, identified as academically at-risk through their pre-kindergarten screening, to participate in the full-day Kindergarten program. Tuition-paying peers opting for full-day instruction make up the other half of the class. Those students identified as not ready for school last August mastered most of the Kindergarten curriculum by January, a feat not routinely accomplished in half-day classes.
Additionally, all students enrolled in the full-day program consistently performed better than those who attended a half-day program. PCEF supports Full-Day Kindergarten so all children can get off to the right start.
