Park City Performing Arts Center Presents - Compexions Contemporary Ballet February 19

complexions-contemory-ballet.jpgPARK CITY, UT – “A dynamite troupe of exquisitely lithe and limber dancers,” according to the Boston Globe, Complexions Contemporary Ballet performs Tuesday, February 19 at The Eccles Center.

Founded in 1994 by former Alvin Ailey dancers Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson – described by New York Magazine as “Two of the most gorgeous virtuosos ever to emerge from Ailey Land” – Complexions stirs up a multicultural blend of sexy, edgy movement. Mixing ballet, jazz and modern dance, this young, daring troupe creates hip, high-voltage, entertaining performance.

The company’s Park City debut features 16 ethnically-diverse, accomplished dancers performing seven pieces (primarily choreographed by the acclaimed Rhoden). With music ranging from Chopin to John Mayer, each piece is an original, athletic, beautiful exploration of dance.

Since its inception, Complexions has pushed the envelope of dance, wowed critics and developed a universal appeal, even drawing admirers who have little acquaintance with modern dance. In 1995, the company won The New York Times Critics Choice Award and began touring the world. Ever since, the reviews have been glowing.

“… It was one of the most inventive, exhilarating, exhausting evenings of dance I can remember,” raved a Kansas City Star reviewer of a 2007 Complexions performance. According to a Boston Globe reviewer, “With an in-your-face brashness and committed muscular athleticism, the dancers unfurl eye-popping chains of movement.”

“This is no ordinary ballet,” explains PCPAF executive director Teri Orr. “Yes, we’ve been honored to present the established precursors of this troupe: Ailey, Pilobolus and MOMIX. Following in those dancers’ esteemed footsteps, while at the same time breaking the mold, the newest generation of modern dance, Complexions, won’t disappoint.”
