Park City Performing Arts Center Presents - Holly Williams

holly-williams.jpgPARK CITY, UT – Yes, her granddaddy was country legend Hank Williams – and her wild daddy, Hank Jr. sang of being “Whiskey Bent & Hell Bound.” Despite her Nashville pedigree, Holly Williams has successfully carved out her own brand of music, venturing into folk-rock-pop terrain. The 26 year-old songbird performs on The Eccles stage on Saturday, January 12.

The Los Angeles Times describes Williams’ debut album “The Ones We Never Knew” as “closer to Coldplay than ‘Cold, Cold Heart.’” “[Williams] honors rather than simply mirrors the family tradition of staunch individualism in her debut album,” writes the Times, “… even in her indie rock singer-songwriter guise, she prizes the unvarnished truth as she sees it.” Her lyrics are introspective and stick to the broken-hearted and her voice is, well, lovely.

According to the BBCHolly is one of the greatest talents to emerge from Nashville in years.” Though she didn’t pick up a guitar until she turned 17, Williams has been writing her own songs since she was eight. She started out playing nightclub gigs in Nashville. Then, she signed onto tours, opening for everyone from John Mellencamp to Duncan Sheik, Billy Bob Thornton and Train. She landed a record deal in 2004 and has been touring ever since.

“We really enjoy introducing rising stars to our audience,” explained PCPAF executive director Teri Orr. “Sure, Williams may have a leg up on the rest of the talent given her family history, but her voice and her music stand alone.”

Holly Williams performs for one night only in Park City.
