Pink Martini - July 14

Serving up a tantalizing cocktail of retro-jazzy-bluesy-samba-noir-pop-Latin-Japanese-French-Croatian (etc,) tunes, Pink Martini kicks off the 2007 Big Stars, Bright Nights concert series on Saturday, July 14. The globally-inspired, multilingual concoction will fill Deer Valley Resort’s Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, beginning at 7 p.m. ”Its music - is entrancing, intoxicating, especially to the open-eared and curious and NPR affiliated,” writes the Orange County Register in a review of Pink Martini’s third album, “Hey Eugene!,” which topped Amazon’s best-sellers chart with the album’s release last month.

Portland’s “little orchestra” (featuring 12 worldly musicians) began as a quartet, founded by a couple of socially-conscious, ridiculously-talented Harvard alums in 1994. Since then, the band has toured the globe, garnering a cult-like following at home and abroad with concerts from the Kennedy Center to Lebanon. Classically-trained pianist and group co-founder Thomas Lauderdale describes his band’s repertoire as wildly diverse. “At one moment you feel like you’re in the middle of a samba parade in Rio de Janeiro, and, in the next moment, you are suddenly in a French music hall of the 1930s or in a palazzo in Napoli,” he explains.

Pink Martini performs on “Late Night with David Letterman” this Thursday, June 14, and was recently featured on NPR.

Tickets for Pink Martini are $28 for lawn seating, $53 for reserved. Please call 435-655-3114 for tickets and information, or log on to www.ParkCityTickets.com.
