Park City’s 2007 Big Stars and Bright Nights Line Up to Include SMOKEY ROBINSON

smokey-robinson.jpgSmokey Robinson, the performer Bob Dylan once declared America’s “greatest living poet,” brings his famous falsetto to the Deer Valley stage on Thursday, August 16 at 7 p.m., joining the 2007 Big Stars, Bright Nights lineup.

The Grammy™ Living Legend, known for chart-topping hits “Tears of a Clown” and “I Second That Emotion,” has been recognized with the highest honors in the music industry, including the NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award, the National Medal of Arts Award from the President of the United States, induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll and Songwriters’ halls of fame, plus an honorary doctorate from Howard University.

“To hear Smokey Robinson curl his swooning falsetto around ‘Our Love Is Here to Say’ is to discover one of the most astonishing reinventions of a standard since pop and soul singers from the 60’s and 70’s began digging into the past,” raves The New York Times of Timeless Love, Robinson’s 2006 album of standards.

Robinson’s success dates back to high school, when he founded The Miracles, a group that assembled as the forerunner to the Motown record dynasty. As the group grew in popularity, Robinson’s single “Shop Around” became the record companies first #1 hit on the R&B singles chart. The Miracles mushroomed to dominate the R&B scene throughout the 1960s and early ’70s, inspiring Robinson to write and produce hits such as “The Way You Do the Thing You Do,” “My Girl,” “Ain’t That Peculiar,” and “You Beat Me to the Punch.”

He later found success as a solo artist, with hits like “Just to See Her,” “Quiet Storm,” “Cruisin’,” “Being with You,” among others. Robinson served as Vice President of Motown records, until the sale of the company in 1988.

“We’re thrilled to round out our summer series with the legendary Smokey Robinson,” says PCPAF executive director, Teri Orr. “Smokey complements a season lineup that spans multiple musical genres, from blues to folk to country. We’re excited to be presenting some of the most talented musicians in the industry, with something for every taste.”
