Park City History Can Be Read On-Line

newspaper-pictures.jpgEver wondered when Park City was incorporated or who the first residents were?  Now you can find the answers to these questions and much more.  Newspapers throughout Utah, including The Park Record, have contributed archives to the Utah Digital Newspapers, which are accessible online at http://udn.lib.utah.edu. The project was started in 2001 by the University of Utah’s J. Willard Marriott Library. The website is a free online, keyword-searchable newspaper database with issues from many Utah areas. .

The Park City Library, The Park Record, and the Park City Historical Society and Museum came together with their resources to post issues beginning in 1881 to 1952. Few newspapers begin as early as 1881. They continue to add issues as resources allow.

The first issue, from July, 1881, discusses the condition of President James Garfield following his shootong at the hands of an embittered attorney. Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, was unable to find the bullet with a new electrical device he designed. President Garfield later died in September 1881.

This is a great resource for everyone to enjoy.  Check it out!
