Long Distance Relocations Are Frustrating, But Worth It

What would you do if you found yourself transferred to another state suddenly, to a state that you hardly knew anything about. Suppose you were being transferred to a part of the state that wasn’t overly populous but had a fair amount of tourism. And suppose you knew that it had a lot of recreational opportunities nearby. But there’s just one hitch. You have a house to sell in your current location and one to buy in your new home.

That’s a big change for anyone. But it happens every day to people just like you. And as scary as it can be, relocation is nothing to sneeze at. Scary, yes. Uncomfortable, definitely. Impossible, no.

The key to a successful relocation is communication and relationship. You need to communicate with your employer on the status of selling your old home and on the status of purchasing your new one. Flying back and forth to handle details on both ends may be necessary for a short while. But in many cases, real estate agents can handle paperwork through fax and e-mail so no worries on that end.

Even still, it can get sticky and frustrating trying to buy and sell a house simultaneously and when you add long distance to the picture, even more so. Make sure that both real estate agents - the seller on the starting end and the buyer’s agent on your new home end - are professional agents with your best interests in mind. Stay in touch with both agents constantly and let them know of your expectations and communicate when things aren’t going as expected. You’ll get through it in the end.
