Sundance Expecting Quieter Festival

The organizers of the Sundance Film Festival say that they expect things to be little quieter this year after the runaway success of last year’s event that brought in $63 million to the local economy. Still the predictions as reported in the Salt Lake Tribune are by no means dire. Even though the festival has steadily grown in size and stature, the real pundits are still insisting that Sundance is really all about the film makers and not the hoopla around the event. And that was a sentiment echoed by the institute’s founder Robert Redford.

Redford recently told reporter Sean P. Means in a telephone interview that he would be more concerned about the films being shown and what they represent rather than how many people show up.

Cause For Concern?

Still, at least one development to this year’s sponsor lineup has signaled a shift from last year. Both Volkswagen and Adobe Systems had decided they wont participate in this year’s festival, but Sundance officials are quick to mention that the sponsorship levels this year are on a par with past festivals.
