Democratic and Republican Candidates Sign up in Force

There is some surprising Park City political news today, as it has been reported that six Democrats and four Republicans are contesting for five new Summit County Council seats.  The Summit County Commission was originally a three-member affair, however, in 2006 local residents voted to increase the number of seats to five.

The referendum was quite a divisive issue.  Many of the urban residents of Park City supported the change, while the rural residents of Summit County strongly opposed to it.

The Republican Lineup includes:
Richard N. Butler – Council Seat B (4 year)
Thomas L. Hurd – Council Seat C (4 year)
Alison Pitt – Council Seat D (2 year)
David Ure – Council Seat E (2 year)

The Democrat Linup includes:
Sarah Cousins “Sally” Elliot and Sean Wharton both vying for the four year Council Seat A
Claudia McMullin – Council Seat B (4 year)
John Hanrahan – Council Seat C (4 year)
Christopher F. Robinson – Council Seat D (2 year)
Tim Woolstenhulme – Council Seat E (2 year)

Of the ten candidates, six are from Park City, with the remaining four representing Marion, Henefer, Kamas and Oakley.

More information about the election and the candidates is available from the Summit County website.
