Utah again has 7 Resorts in the Ski Magazine Top 30 for 2008

Contributed by Billie Harsch - Posted: October 2nd, 2008

ski-picture-at-the-canyons.jpgSki Magazine’s latest issue details the top 50 ski resorts in North America. Deer Valley is again #1, with Park City Mountain Resort at #5 and The Canyons moving up to #13. Park City dominates the Utah market, but other Utah resorts did very well with Solitude #22, Snowbird at #25, Alta at #28, and Snowbasin at #30. Utah is the only place with 7 resorts within an hour of each other that are in the Top 30. Most are within 30 minutes of the Salt Lake International Airport.

Vail, Whistler/Blackcomb and Snowmass trailed Deer Valley on the list, while Beaver Creek, Aspen, Steamboat, Breckinridge and Telluride rounded out the Top 10 following Park City Mountain Resort.

Utah’s resorts work hard at providing the best ski experience and it is becoming more apparent that The Greatest Snow on Earth is being complimented by the world’s greatest resorts.

The Wait for Hitting the Slopes in Park City Just Got Longer

Contributed by manager - Posted: November 19th, 2008

When you live in Park City or you just have a sense of all that the area has to offer, November 22 was likely a day that you had had marked on your calendar for a while. Unfortunately, given some unseasonably warm temperatures and - as a result - a loss of snow and an inability to make it, it looks as though the wait that you’re going to have for hitting the slopes in Park City just got a little bit longer.

If you live in Park City, this simply means that you’ll have another chance to find the right gear - or to get out for a hike or another activity that you enjoy. On the other hand, if you were going to be visiting the area in hopes of skiing, you’re going to find that there’s suddenly a bit more time in your schedule. You’ll want to be sure that you check out the night life, grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants and see what else the area has to offer.

Sure, it’s disappointing to know that you might not be able to make it to the slopes as soon as possible (ie Saturday), but there will be plenty of other great opportunities as the season continues.

Want to Get a Jump on Your Holiday Shopping in Park City?

Contributed by manager - Posted: November 16th, 2008

It’s getting to be that time of year again - that time when Park City comes alive, the snow starts falling and there’s a sort of music in the air that just wasn’t there before: that’s right - it’s getting to be holiday shopping season (yes, already - hard to believe isn’t is). Fortunately, for those who have some free time this weekend that will be back here before you know it (even though it is before Thanksgiving), there’s the Christmas in the Meadow Holiday Boutique at St Mary’s Catholic Church.

Not only will you be able to find great local crafts  that will help you to get a jump start on your holiday shopping, but also you’ll find that admission fees are more than reasonable - a dollar a piece for those over the age of 12, free for those under - so that if you’re simply looking for the chance to take the kids out so that they’ll be able to find the gifts that they need to pick up for teachers, classmates or friends.

Hey, if you’re able to take care of shopping for the later holidays, you’ll also find that there are far more things that you’ll have to be thankful for come Thanksgiving.

Why You Should Be Looking Forward to Park City Skiing

Contributed by manager - Posted: November 15th, 2008

Park City would still exist if it weren’t for the mountains and the skiing, but one of the primary things that draws people to the area is the skiing. It’s because of this - at least in part - that the ski restorts in the Park City area are looking for the chance to remind those outside of the area what they’ve got available.

Let’s face it, those who have skied Park City are going to tell you that it’s the best skiing you’re going to find. But that’s not just going to be based on the experiences that others have had in the past: this year there have been a number of great improvements made. On mountain improvements, increased snowmaking and maintainence equipment, new chair lifts and updated lodges are all things that you’ll be able to look forward to.

But there’s something more that you are going to want to think about: when you do come into Park City for the skiing, you’re probably going to want to stick around - at the very least you’re not going to want to head back home. Fortunately, there is a great solution - just buy Park City real estate and you’ll be all set.

Think You Might Catch a Movie in Park City This Weekend?

Contributed by manager - Posted: November 14th, 2008

Some weekends are just really good for those folks who want to kick back and relax a bit and enter a world that seems pretty far out of their own. For them, this weekend looks like a great time to head out and try to catch a movie.

Given that this is Park City and Redford’s Sundance Festival is held here, it’s a pretty good idea to mention Changeling with Angelina Jolie - based on the story of a woman whose child was lost and who was dismissed by the authorities after they put another child in her care.

For something a bit more feel good, there’s also the option of seeing the screen adaptation of The Secret Life of Bees. Or, for those action lovers out there, there’s - what was it again? - oh yeah, Quantum of Solace, the latest James Bond offering featuring Daniel Craig. Of course, if you’ve got kids, you might find yourself watching either High School Musical or Madagascar 2.

In other words, there’s a lot out there this weekend for those who are thinking about catching a movie - both in Park City and far beyond the area. In fact, there’s so much out there that it might be tough to choose just one.
